Hans-Ludwig Hanau - Artist

Hans-Ludwig Hanau was born in Hamburg in 1946. From 1968 - 71 he studies music at the music academy of Heidelberg and gets his master's degree in violin. Right afterwards, he studies painting and drawing at Städelschule in Frankfurt (a.M.) with prof. Raimer Jochims. During the 70s the artist spends his time between Vienna and Heidelberg, where he runs an avant- garde open workshop, the "Halle". In 1978 he travels to the US and spends six months in New York and San Francisco. In 1980 he moves to Tuscany (Italy) where he lives until 1991.

In 1991 he moves to France, close to the Swiss border, before moving to Basel (Switzerland) in 1996. At the "Unternehmen Mitte" in Basel he runs the "kleine Akademie" where he teaches drawing and painting classes until 2005. Throughout the years Hans-Ludwig Hanau rarely exhibits his work and only realises very few and exclusive art projects. Besides his work, he dedicates his time to literature and philosophy.

 

Since 2018 Hans- Ludwig Hanau lives near Berlin with his wife.
